ALEVEL biology question: disease-resistant bananas!?
There are two ways to produce disease resistant banana, first is via cross breed and the second is via biotech and tissue culture. The cross breeding can be done by crossing the desired banana variety with the wild variety. This is because the wild variety have higher tolerant or resistant ability due to frequent expose of pathogen in natural condition. Whereby using biotech, desirable gene need to be incorporated into target species(banana). Trials which involved 'try and error' process are done by breeding programme until the desired banana species can be made. There is no easy way to incorporate gene because of difficulties in finding the genes that shows traits(banana) while at the same time it is also difficult to find the desirable traits to be incorporate into banana.
