Were original greek bronze statues painted too?

The problem with paint is that it doesn't last. There were found a few roman sculptures painted but why? Because they were preserved covered in moistured ground. I doubt that in Greece you will find any sculpture with its original paint as the climate and the ground is a bit different so the chances are close to zero.
